The Animal Control division of the Stratford Police Department enforces local ordinances and state laws pertaining to the humane care of animals and to the protection of citizens within Stratford City Limits. Please keep your pets in your yard or on a leash at all times. Our Animal Control Officer picks up dogs that roam the streets and citations will be issued for dogs at large.

Stratford Animal Control stops responding to non-emergency calls after 5:00 pm. Please leave your contact information in case our Animal Control Officer needs to follow up with you.


  


  

  

Stray Intake

If you have found a stray dog, you can try walking around the neighborhood with the animal, usually small ones and seniors are not far from home! Also ask your neighbors!


Owner Surrender

Owner Surrenders are done by appointment only!

· The shelter is a very stressful place for any animal, especially an owned dog/cat that is used to love and routine!


· The shelter should be your last resort for your animal!

· Research online or seek a trainer if you are rehoming because of behavioral issues-—[most can be solved effectively!

· Please try to rehome your animal via family/friends or social media.


Impound fees, per animal: City Ordinance 2.02.034

· First impound (within a 12-month period): $25.00.

· Second impound (within a 12-month period): $50.00.

· Third impound (within a 12-month period): $75.00.

· Each additional time an animal is impounded in a 12-month period, the fee will increase by $25.00.

· Daily shelter fee, per animal/per day: $3.00.

· Euthanasia fee, per animal: $30.00.

· Surrender fee- All animals: $50.00.

· Rabies shot, per animal: $30.00.

For more information regarding regulations on dogs and cats in the city limits please reference the City Ordinance 2.01 and 2.02

Livestock permit: $50.00. For more information on livestock inside the city limits please reference the City Ordinance 2.03

All payments must be made at City Hall- 518 N. 3rd.

State law requires all animals to have an up-to-date rabies vaccination before leaving the shelter. Also the City encourages the spaying and neutering of your animals.

EMERGENCY CALLS


Emergency calls should be made for   the following situations:


  • Animal owner arrested - animal left alone in a vehicle or at home

     
  • Dog and cat bites - human exposure and broken skin

     
  • Dogs attacking other animals or acting        aggressively toward humans

     
  • Animals attacked by high-risk rabies carriers.......(raccoon, skunk, bat, fox, coyote)

     
  • Sick/injured stray animals - obvious wounds on a stray animal

     
  • Venomous snakes - inside homes and living spaces

     
  • Wild animals - inside homes and living spaces



Non-Emergency Calls

 Nonemergency calls should be made   for the following situations:


  • Dead animals on the road    
  • Sick and injured owned animals - Owners are        responsible for taking animals to their vet. 
  • To surrender an animal- by appointment only. 
  • Sightings of wild animals - At night or in their        natural habitat    
  • Stray or loose animals - Non-life threatening or        injured.    
  • Owners that allow their animals to run loose        after hours.

Animal Services may respond to these   calls during regular business hours.
